The Latest…

Well, today was a long day. Took a trip to UCLA and met with two doctors (one that was HIGHLY recommended), Both by friends and people from various forums. It appears that a mastectomy is inevitable. According to the doctors the, remainder of the tumor is too close to the nipple to salvage it, or much of the breast tissue for that matter. We had not told Hannah exactly what a mastectomy was until today, with the help of the doctors of course. We feared that she would probablly be very upset… But she was like “let’s do this, I need to get healthy”. This was a total shock to us, we thought for sure she would cry or scream at us or something. But no, she seems to understand everything. Even the doctor stopped and asked her if she was ok.  We explained that she will loser her hair with chemotherapy and she barely flinched (she wants a new hair style anyways). I think this goes to show that children do understand alot more than we as parents think, they just don’t always listen. so, needless to say it was a huge relief for us as we do not like keeping anything from her.

Tomorrow the three of us will be going yet to another surgeon (actually two) to see if they have anything different to say. As of right now we are leaning towards UCLA as we have been most impressed with the staff there.

That’s all for now. thank you all!

News of first doctors visit

So, as you all know Hannah had her first doctors visit today. We probably have more questions now than yesterday. What we do know however is that the Oncologist / Surgeon is suggesting that Hannah have a mastectomy of the affected breast. The issue at hand is how to treat her as she is a child with an adult disease and the hospitals that deal with breast cancer does not typically treat children, and the Childrens hospital does not have the facilities to treat breast cancer. We have two options at this point; (A) Hannah goes to a breast center that does not have the experience in children or (B) she goes to a hospital that has more pediatric care but not so much in the breast cancer area. We will be meeting with a couple of surgeons in the next few days to figure out a game plan. We still do not have a prognosis at this point, nor do we know what type(s) of follow up treatment Hannah will receive. This is a lot for us to digest so as more information arises, we will update the site.

Once again, Thank you for all of your love and support. It really makes things bearable in this difficult time.

Love Jeremy and Carrie

First Doctors Visit

On Monday 4/20, Hannah will be going to her first Oncologist visit at Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles. We are planning to be there most of the day as we are going to map out a plan of attack. We hope to have a lot of our questions answered. From what we understand there has never been a case reported in a child this young, so it will be a learning experience for both us and the doctors. As new information developes, we will update the site. We cannot express how gratefull we are for everybodys support through this difficult time. Thank you and God bless!
